A lot of people can't draw well. Here it comes though in few parts. I grew up drawing all the time. You can draw well with a pencil because you learned it. And while most figure drawings were originally exercises and never intended for frames or to be put on display, interior designers and homeowners seem to be doing it anyway. That provides strong evidence that there is no instinct or id or natural human thing about drawing with a pencil. That's the part of figuring out what you want to sketch before you sketch it. While I do my overall setup of the building, space in front before I add the people, I have found it helps to draw the people very early on - especially if the focus of the sketch is the life of the urban space.
